SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the Eketahunc School Committee was held.. on Monday, June 22nd. PresentMessrs T. Bayliss (chairman), Maunsell, Timmins, Polling, Carter, and Rowse.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. * • The Chairman mentioned that] firewood was required for the'sciioo). It was resolved that two cords of rata be ordered. Mr Timmins said he had found a man who would attend to. tho cleaning of the closets at a less figure than had been paid. In as\V9r to a question' the Chairman stated that the'old contraot price was £8 7s 6d per year. . It was resolved that the Chairman call for tend ere for .the work. The Chairman stated that Jie had received a circular from the Education Board in referenoe to. the circular received- at last meeting from the Grey town School" Committee, and as the * Board wished a reply ai once he did not think it necessary to call a special meeting, but had answered it to the effect that'no benefit would be derived by this district by the alteration of scholarship fees. The action of the chairman was endorsed.

It was stated that the children were getting tired of cleaning tho school, and that the. school would soon be out of debt. '

Members thought it was advisable to call for tenders for the cleaning work, but the difficuly arose as to ivhether the school olesner should attend twice a day or once only. Pending the drawing up of specifications no decision was arrived at.

The following was reported to be the financial position:—Liabilities, £l4 14s 4d ; cash in hand, £2l lis 8d ; capitation, £6 ; amount collected for debts, £l los 6d; tickets of concert sold, £2 16s 6d. .
