TOWN LANDS TRUSTEES.

A special meeting of the Masterterton Town Lands Trustees was held in the Council Chambers last evening, there being present Messrs W. Lowes (Chairman), J. Graham, H. E. Eton, B. P. Perry and A. W. Benall.

The minutes of the previous meet ing were react and confirmed. The Treasurer reported a credi balance of £195 7s sd. School Grants.

The Fernridge School Committee wrote, thanking the Trust for its grant of £ls for cleaning and firing. The communication was received, the Chairman remarking that it showed the Committee's good sens?.

A letter was read from the late Mastorton School Committee, calling attention to the fact that no grant had been made for the year ending 31st March, 1891, and stating that the grants already made were quite inadequate to meet the requirements of the school. The Chairman did not think the Trust had the power to deal with this letter. The School Committee forwarding jt was now defunct. Mr Eton thought the Trust should take no notice of the communication. From Mrs Ewington, requesting an alteration of the terms of her lease so that she would receive compensation for improvements about to be made.—The chairman wished to know the opinion of the Trust as to the advisability of granting the application nuder the circumstances mentioned.—Mr Uenall thought they had the power to make the alteration, but would rot like to establish a precedent.—After a lengthy discus- [ sion it was resolved on the motion of Mr Renall that the members of the Trust inspect the property on Monday next with a view to dealing with the matter. From J. J. Falk, offering to lease from the Trust the section adjoining the public school on certain conditions.—The offer was accepted. Balance Sheet. I The balance sheet was presented, but has not yet been passed by the auditor. The Defaulter's List. The Clerk was authorised to take the necessary steps to deal with defaulters. Annual Report. The Trust went into Committee to draw up the annual report, and the meeting then adjourned.
