(United Press Association,)
Mr Henry Ashton, land agent, gave evidence. The only portion of importance was that lie had originally sold the Stark property to Mr Stark in 1881—28 acres at £6O an acre, and a section 011 the opposite side of the road at £45 an aero subsequently, with house and outbuildings. It was offered for £3OOO, onequarter cash, tho offer being in Mr Stark's handwriting; another offer, including more land, was for £3,500, one-fifth cash, the balance in three years at 5 per cent. Another proposal which Mr Stark made to him for tho sale was for the houso and 20 acres at £SOOO. He could not sell at these prices, and Mr Stark withdrew tho offers from him in 1884, or the beginning of 1885. Mr Stark subsequently iisked him to go to Mr Ross, to yet a negotiation concluded with him at £2500 for ten acres, Ho belioved then that Mr Stark would have taken £4OOO, as he wanted money. Between 1883 and 1885 that property had depreciated. Land was at its highest when he offered it in 1883 at £SOOO. The price which Mr Stark paid to him for these 25 acres originally was £ISOO.
