DANIEL O'CONNELL was bred by Mr Murphy, of Marlborough, and is by Daniel O'Rourke, from Plover, by Sir Hercules. Plover is also dam of Malvina, Hercules, and other winners, see N,Z, Stud Book, Vol. li, Daniel O'Rourke won the Canterbury Derby and Cup, in 1875, and is by Sledmcre (imported), from Brunette (importeu), who is also dam of Tadinor, the Canterbury Derby winner of 1874. DANIEL is a bay horse, and is 6 years old, standing over 1G hands high, good constitution, and if good shape, size, and performance go for anything, this son of Daniel O'Rourke should beget the class of horses required in the Wairarapa. He is just the class of horse to get cither cross country horses, race horses, or weightcarrying hacks, according to the class of mare put to him. His first season on the turf, he won the Flying Handicap at Marlborough, with Sst 41bs up, also Sporting Handicap at same meeting Sst, and- after a serving season won County Cup at Kaikoura, 1A miles, with lOst up, and won Consolation Handicap at Reefton same season; also ran second to Orlando for Maiden Plate at Nelson, w.f.a. ; at Wairarapa Spring Meeting, 82-3, was second to Kakapo Sst lOlbs for County Handicap, and won Maiden Stakes Ost 21bs, beating Makora, First Water, and six others; at Island Bay he was second to Reivi, welter w.f.a., also at same meeting ran second to Camellia. At MastertonOpaki, won Railway Handicap Bst lOlbs, G furlongs in lmiu 18scc. Orphan Ost 71bs, second, Romp, Cst Gibs, third, and was second to Kakapo Sst Dibs, fnr Opaki Handicap, DAN'S weight being Sst Gibs. At Reefton Summer lie was second for the Inangahua Cup, Ost, won by Satellite, Ost 41bs, won J.C, Handicap, Ost lOlbs, beating Field, BstGlbs, Satellite, Ost lOlbs, and another. Ho also won Railway Plato at Nelson, and ran in several other races there, and has always shown he was hard to beat, and could always carry weight and race with it. Ho also gained second prize at the Wairarapa Agricultural Show in 1884, beating Premier, Yoltigeur, and Crawford Priory.
