' " Tub animal'pionio of St. MarkVSmiduy School took place in the paddocks at the roar of tho old Pioneer Hotel on Monday, The children, of whom thare wore over lfiO on the roll, mustered with theii parents and friends in the Church ground shortly before 11 o'clock, fn the morning, and formed into line, marched into churcli singing " Brightly Gleams our Banner'' as a processional. After a short service ol prayer, the reading of the lessons mid psalms, and an address and benodictiou from the Uov W. T. Weujeru, they filed out of church again, sinking as the reces sional, " Tliere's a Friend f-r Little Childim" The line of march was then formed 'to proceed to the locale where the remainder of ihe day was tube-juiced. Tho Carierton band (who gave their services gratuitously for tho day) headed tlu procession, and immediately behind them two of the m::lo teachers carried a large illuminated banner emblazoned " St, Mark's Sunday School-Li'tie Childreii Lovo One Another." The girls followed, the boys bringing up the rear-a large number of the scholars bearing baunerets —the teachors flanking tlie lino, aud sevo< lal carls and buggies succeeding them, tho whole presenting a most attractive appoarance.' On arrival at tlie ground games were at once started, and continued until the signal for dinner was given, some of the elder girls singing the grace both before and after the repast most admirably, indeed the singingof the children through, ont the day.fand especially in the sofl twilight of. the calm summer's evening, was very sweet and olear, arid favorably commeulodon by many of the visitors, As soon as the 'J big feed" was over sports were' recommenced, cortiuuing until sis o'clock. The boys and girls went in fo) races, ing-»f-war, &c„ for prizes, while «"«»* indulged in quoits, cricket, lonnders, and tlie round of «ames usual at picnics. Mrs Western, after the several race* and conte<ts, presented the prizes tc tho successful competitors. Soon after six tlie oliildren were summoned to tea, after which tho same order of march was assumod as in the morning to tho school room, where a large and brilliamly-lil Christmas tree, covered with presents was prepared. Each and, all had a pul out of the lucky-bag, and wlion the final dispersion took place about nine, nil separated laden wjch presents, and evidenth delighted with tho day they had spent than to are most certainly duo to. the band, who played continuously tlirwH) out the day, and to the Rev Mr Western Mrs Western, and the other kind frionds who catered so successfully, and workee harl throughout the day to make; the pic nic the success it whs, Tho dfiv ww warm, but a nice breeze was blowing a ul tents afforded shelter to those who soiighi tnenvfihade.
