LOCAL INDUSTRIES.
[To the Editor of the 'Waiiurapa Daily.] Sir,—l have noticed lately a move meat on foot —not&bly at ftunedin—to establish i companys for the purpose of sending food in the shape of meat to the mother » country. This, 110 doubt, is a stop in the right direction; but, air, it occurs, to my mind that the better way of getting/rid ' of our surplus food would, ha. to 'bring people to this country to eat it. Probably most of your readers will think that there are people enough here'how and to spare. To a certain extent they are. .right, but when we consider that'thousands of pounds' worth of wool leaves this and other clistricta of the colony annually for the purpose of being' manufactured and re* turned to us it is surely possible for us to devise some means to import machinery, and laborers and .retain the labor;in the colony.,i", 1 ,'|;j Capital is just now plentiful, energy is surely not wanting'amongst us if some one would take the lead. I believe that a joint stock, company, if started her* just now for the purpose of establishing a woollen ■factory, would'ineet with, help and cd'operationeverywherebyboth rich and poor, and but . few would , grudge to invest from one pound to one hundred in the undertaking; " u What' l w# want is ■ V ,■ '•
