ASTRONOMY OF 1881.
After the taste given for nstronoiny by Mr Proctor's visit, our readers may be interested by the following paragraph from the New York Sun on the astromical events of 1881" The sky will not presenl such a brilliant pageant again this centurl as it does during the present year. Anion! the phenomena are a remarkable series cS conjunctions, and double and triple coia junctions, Tho most interesting of then is the great twenty-year conjunction A Jupiter and Saturn in April. As tliß conjunction occurs iu the sign Taurufl which astrologers say rules Turkey ail Ireland, they feol safe, on account ot lfl cent occurrences, in predicting vefl momentous effects'in those countries froH the conjunction. Thero will also be cofl junctions of Jupiter and Mars, Venus ill Jupiter, Saturn and Venus, and the H • away giants Uranus and Neptune vfl play a part in this remarkable planetH levee. Venus will reach her grcatfl brightness, and. her delicate cresceH I should be a favorite object in the amateH J astronomer's telescope. Saturn ope™ wider its wonderful rings, and Jupiter is ■ remarkably brilliant. Mars will begin to brighten in the latter part of this year, and then his snowy poles and shadowy continents will again become the admiration of those who gaze through telescopes. In short, there will bo no end of attractions in the starry heavens, and all the prognostications of soothsayers will not be able to darken the sky of 1881."
