WAIRARAPA HOSPITAL.

A special and an ordinary 'meeting of tho committee of tho above was held at Messrs Wood & Co's,, offices, on Friday last. Present,—Messrs Pharazyn (chairman), Cuff, Wood, Wyetfc, Eev White, and the secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Treasurer reported balance in bank as JISG 12s 9d. The following accounts were passed for payment. Fabin Bros., (stores) £l7 17s fid; L, St George, £s lss 9d; E, B, Bell (salary), £6 lCs 5. CORRESPONDENCE. Inwards,—From railway department, enclosing £a 5s in settlement of claim made by the committee re fees in connection with the late Rimutaka accident; from Wairarapa East County, enclosing chequo for £1 7s Cd, balance of subsidy due, and informing the committee that as Government subsidies have now ceased, uo further payments can bo matlo; from the custodian tendering his resignation, The Secretary read as a report theremarks entered in the hospital diary by visitors and others, and stated that the fire insurance premiums of L2 5s had been duly paid. The Committe after having the evidence of a patient who stated that he

had been turned out of the hospital at 10 p.m. on the sth inst. by the custodian, who was in a state of intoxication and very violent, sent for the custodian to give him'an opportunity of answering the charge. It was then found that ho had left for Wellington without applying for leave, and the following resolution was passed:—That the custodian having again, after frequent warnings, been ..in a state of'intoxication while on duty, and having now*absented himself without leave, the Committee feel bound to refuse to accept his resignation as tendered, and he is therefore dismissed atonce. Salary to be paid toihis day. The. Secretary washistructed to forward' a.copy of the above motion to the custo r dian, and to advertise'.for a. custodian in the Wairarapa Daily and other' papers! A sub-Coinmittee, consisting of Bev Mr White,.and Messrs Cuff and Wood, was appointed to make temporary 'arrangementsforcarrying'onthe,hospital.: :. •':'.
