CARTERTON POST OFFICE.
JTo the Editor of the Watbabapa Dam.] . ' Sik,-I am greatly surprised that the Carterton folks are so resigned to tne shifting of their Post Office from its present' locality , to the Railway, Staton.Surely very few' must know that such is the case, and if they do are not aware ot the very great inconvenience of having to go half-a-mile" further to the Post Office, ■ If the authorities intended shifting the .. Post Office it ought to have been to.the centre of the town, as those living at; the. south end of Carterton have always had to go a mile for their letters, &c. It-is a ridiculous [idea,.'. even supposing that "retrenchment" is- what it is done for. Where will be the saving? The same y\.number ofhands will be required for rail way and Post Office work; the countryis, put to the expense of building another.office, and the people in the township axe inconvenienced for no benefit whatever. Perhaps, Mr Editor, you can inform me where the retrenchment part comes in. The time for action is 'very short, as the tenders close on March 12th. I hope some of: our big men will either 'call a meeting or get a petition signed, and try and make our masters' reconsider their verdict, ■ ... .:'-,.;■ I remain, &c, Cartereon.
