The- Chairman opened the' proceedings by' stating that the debtor had gone away suddenly to Auckland, and was believed to have left thence for San Francisco by-the. mail steamer City of Sydney. Mr Henry Neal, formerly of Emerson-street, Napier, but recently manager of Mr North's business in this city, stated,' in. reply .to questions from the chairman and others, that to his (Neal's) certain knowledge. North had left, %nd had no intention of returning, although the Ijambton-quay business was not sold. Considerable discussion took place,.amongst the : .creditors, especially with regard to the expediency of declaring North a bankrupt,' Besides his obligations in connectipn.with.the i'4OOQ-.sweep, it was stated that his debts (including bills : now approaching maturity) amounted" to L2BO, Ultimately it was agreed that ano- ! ther meeting'of creditors should be held ' this morning, and that the opinion of ! Messrs Buckley, Stafford,'and Fitzher-', bert should be taken in the meantime.
