A CURIOUS STATEMENT.

Some excitement has been caused at Portsmouth by statements made by a womau to the police, which seemed to justify suspicion of an attempt made to ■ blow up the Government House. Thf' woman stated that she was met one evening by a man and a woman, who gave her a box, and asked her to deliver it into the hands of Prince Edward of Sax Weimar. She declined, to undertake the errand unless told what was in the box. A handkerchief was thereupon thrust over her mouth, rendering her insensible,' and when she .came to herself the man and woman were gone. The police Have been making enquiries, but have not as yet succeeded in getting any trace of the. parties said to be concerned.
