DIOCESAN SYNOD.
(From the if.Z. Times.) The adjourned meeting of the Synod was held at f. 30 on Thursday. Present: The President. ; Dlergy: Archdeacon Stock, Archdeacon Thorpe, Revs T. Fancourt, B. W. Harvey, 0.. H, S. Nicholla, J. Jones, A. Towgood, A. Dasent, H. V. White, R, Coffey, andL. Tudor. Laity <• Messrs W. H. Quick, Dr Spratfc, G. Didsbiiry, R. Hunter, Hon. 0. J. Pharazyn, W. France, 0. D. Bai'raud, J. A. Plimmer, G. F. Allen, J. E. Smith, E. W. Lowe, C. P. Powles, Captain Hewitt, G. W. Williams, D. Porter, 0. Rous-Marten, and Colonel Leckie. ' Proceedings opened with prayer. Minutes of former day read and confirmed, Moved by Archdeacon Stock, seconded by the Lay Secretary, -That the report of the Standing Committee be adopted and printed in the Report of the Synod. —Carried.
Moved by Archdeacon Stock, seconded by the Lay Secretary,—That the balance sheets of the Pension Fund, of tho Pension Fund Capital Account, and the Endowment Fund, be adopted and printed in the report of the Synod.— Carried.
Moved by Mr Powles, seeonded by the lay' Secretary,—That the balance-sheet o£ the Diocesan Synod be adopted and printed in the report of the Synod,— Carried.
Moved by Mr Powles, seconded by the Lay Secretary,—That the report and balance sheet of the Diocesan Board of Trustees be adopted and printed in the report of the Synod,
Mr Powles obtained leave to add to'the report n note concerning a late gift of lease and rental t.o the diocese by Dr Johnston.
Moved by Mr Rous-Marten, seconded by Archdeacon Stock—Thata bill toamend the Act IY. by defining, for the purposes of the Act, the word " communicant," bo read a second time,.
The Synod divided. Ayes-Aroh-deacori Stock, Revs Harvoy and White Messrs Allen, Rous'Marton, Plimmer, Barraud, Didsbury, and -Powles, Noes The f President, Archdeacon Thorpe, Reva Tudor, Ooffey, Nicholls, Jones, Dasent and Pancourt, Colonel Leckie, Captain Hewitt, DrSpratt, Messrs Lowe, Porter,-France, Williams, Hunter, and Quick. —Motion lost.
Moved by Mr Allen, seconded by Mr Rous-Marten,—That a committee be appointed to obtain information as to the psalters, hymnals, and other service books in use in the several churches of the diocese; and to, report to the Synod what atepa-j; ifVany, should ,be taken'to bring tjip uses of the churches "into accord; Such committee 'to i consist of the Yen Archdeacon - Thorpe, v Revs': C. . T. L. Tudor,—Thata committee be appointed to, consider the recommendation of the vestry to Christ Church, Wanganui, that the boundaries of that parish be altered to a circle whose radius shall be three miles from the Post Office. Such committee to consist of the Yen Arohdeacon Thorpe, Revs T. L, Tudor, Alexander Dasent, Arthur Towgood, MrG.W. Williams, and the mover. The names of the President and of Mr Pofflbs were added, and the motion was then put and carried ' .
Archdeacon Stock reported that he had been directed by the standing committee to ascertain whether all the parishes and parochial districts would be willing to join m a general scheme for insuring in one block all the church properties in the diocese. That lie had ascertained that from the unwillingness of some parishes to join, the scheme would not be carried out.
Moved by Archdeacon Stock, seconded by the Lay Secretary,—That a committee be appointed to draw up an Act to regulate the pension fund of the diocese, to consist of the Revs T. Fancourt, B. W. Harvey, Messrs W. H. Quick, E, W. Lowe, C. P. Fowles,and the mover. Notices of motion were given by Archdeacon Thorpe, Mr Allen, Rev J. Jones, Rev H. V. White, and Dr Spratt.
