Twonty witnesses, including a number of children, were examined, the general tendency of the evidence being that complainant was helplessly drunk. The constables examined his leg, but finding nothing paid no attention to his complaints. Dr Gillon said it was with difficulty that he found the break. The magistrate expressed his opinion that it was tho system, and not tho men, that was to blame. Judgment reserved till Monday. ; ; The disturbance by native prisoners on Ripa Island is incorrect. Some constables refused duty and were fined £2 and dismissed.
