FEATHERSTON HIGHWAY BOARD
The. usual monthly'meeting of the above was hold on Saturday last. Present-Messrs 'fully (in the chair), J. h Russell (treasurer), H. H, Jackson, A, Matthews, and W. Smith,
The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed,
, The treasurer read his monthly financial report, which stated the receipts during the past mouth at £19919s b'd, the total amount of rates now collected at £1445. and outstanding at £159 6s 9d, and the eielit balance at bank £IOB4 0' 2.1; also proposing that' 23 per cent of rates be deducted for general expenditure. The report was received, and after discussion it was resolved that the fund proposed to be net aside from general rates for thepurp'Sa of defraying the expenditure to which the Wards are jointly liable be made up by reserving 25 per cent of the rates from each Ward, except in No. 3 Ward, fur which, in consideration of not having any oiain mad, the proportion of 15 pel cent only be reserved. The report was,otherwise adopted. Accounts amounting to £159 7s 8d were passed for payment. The Engineer's monthly report was Dad.
It was decided that the additional metalling at Waihenga be done nfc once, to be arranged for with Mr Johnson, the present contractor. The matter to be left to the Engineer. Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to arrange with Mr McLeod to widen !)be East Coast road for a distance of about 120 chains. Payment not to exceed £lO. The other recommendations in report were adopted.
• The Clerk was instructed to give notice to Mr Bunny that the trees from his land obstructing the road have been removed by the Board, and requesting him to refund the cost^
Mr Jackson reported that the railway crossing had been done, and recoinmen ded that, the ruts on the Woodside road be raked in. -
Mr Donald pointed out tho advantage of delaying the formation of Murphy's line till summer.
Mr Matthews pointed out that if funds are available for no more than the work below Ponui he would prefer to have that done, and the culverts stand over.
Mr Smith pointed out the advisability of improving the road going to Hautotora at once before the wool season sets in.
Mr Murphy attended, and by permission of the Board addressed the, Board on the subject of the gate erected by Mr Juo Guudy on the unused portion of road. He Complained of such permission having been given by the Board,
Mr Murphy was asked to put his complaint in writing, when the Board would consider it.
After a short adjournment a letter from Mr Murphy, applying that the gate be removed, was read.
The Board resolved that the engineer be instructed to inquire into the matter, and report at next meeting. The following tenders were opened for Heifer Station work :-on'e, LI 14i 9J per chain; Brudisoii, Ll 9s b'd, For South Featherston, formation 12 chains -W. Hodder, Ll 10s per chain ; C. Tail, 19s 9d. For Western Lake, metalling and forming 12 chains—McKay and Bui" ling, forming, 17s per chain, metalling, 25s ; W. fcludder, forming, 255, metalling, OOi.
Resolved-That Brodisim's lender be accepted, on condition that the Warden for Kahautara Ward arrange for the necessary funds. Resolved-That C. Tait's tender for Souih Featherston, and Burling and McKay's for Western lake road'be accepted. The correspondence consisted of a letter from Mr Pharazyn, atking for time for Ihe removal of bis gates; from West Couuiy Council, approving of exchange of road at Wharekaka.
The Engineer was instructed, mi the motion of Mr Russell, to ascertain at once whether Mr Pharazyn has commenced the fencing, if not, that the Engineer take up the gates at once, Tho Clerk was instructed to inform MiMartin that the exchange ot roads has been finally adopted. The Engineer and Warden of No. 3 Ward were authorised to let a small piece of work at Ponui, if funds permitted. Tho meeting then adjourned,
