We notice from the "Times" telegrams, that the Ohristohurch Municipality haye taken the action with respect to the continuance of subsidies, as fixed by the Financial Arrangements Act, 1876, that should have been taken by our local representative bodies some time since; The Financial Arrangements Act, 1876, sets forth that there shall be paid from " the Consolidated Fund" for five years from the commencement of the Act, &c. The resolutions passed at Ohristohurch are to the effect that the Government, will break faith with the different governing bodies by stopping the subsidies. That the representatives be asked to urge the Government to continue the payment for at least the time stated in the Act. We think our governing bodies should not stand idly by, but take some action at once. Local bodies may have borrowed money, or executed certain works, relying upon subsidies being continued for the time stated, and may be placed awkwardly if payment is now stopped. We would therefore urge upon the Councils and Boards the necessity of considering the matter at once.

The delegates were empowered to guarantee £SO from the . Carterton district, if for duties of inspector only, and £65 if the duties of clerk and inspector are combined. The Trustees wish it to be understood that they intend carrying out the Rabbit Act to the letter, and this means should any one fail to destroy the rabbits the trustees will do go at his expense.
