It is understood that Bell and Fox, two of the Royal Commissioners of Native Affairs, have presented an.interim report to His Excellency the Governor. Its nature is not' yet known, but ; is ru-. mored that it deals with certain matters brought before the Commissioners,, in; which there will be no. difficulty in-arriv-ing at a decision. The Civil Service Commission met yesterday. To-day Messrs Blackett and Knowles were examined, and 'yesterday Dr Lemon, Oapt. Johnson, Oliver, and Wakefield. The Commission goes South on Monday next. The Premier will visit the Waimate Plains and Constabulary Camp on his way from Auckland, On Monday next, the German Emperor attains the age of 85. The Germans here will celebrate the event by a grand ball and banquet. The Napier Telegraph hears that Tongariro is again in a state of extreme eruption. It is eleven years since it was in such a state before. Edgar Barainger, bank agent "at Kaikoura, has been arrested for embezzling money belonging to the bank, He is a married man with a family,, and. much sympathy is expressed for him. : . ' A telegram received in town to-day states that Hastwell, Macara, & Co.'s coach was stuck up by some natives while proceeding from Foxton to Wellington. The natives demanded toll for the coach and passengers before they would allow it to pass. The amount was paid- under protest, and the coach proceeded to Wellington, The matter was reported to the Government to-day. SYDNEY. March 16.
