WAIRARAPA INSTITUTE.
The Committee of the above institution met on Tuesday evening Present—Mesrs Baillie (in the chair), Brooks, Thomas, Porritt, Bock, Wood, and Stenhouse.
After the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, the secretary reported the receipt of a further portion ot the new books consisting of "sixty-nine volumes, and an invoice of several, others.
The treasurer reported the balance to credit as £23 lis lid. ' ■ ■
A letter from Messrs Lyon & Blair in reply re accounts was read, Accounts due to : Geo. Robertson for books and binding, amounting to £lO lis 3d were passed for payment. The secretary reported having remitted subscriptions in advance for papers and periodicals to the amouut of £ll 13s 4d,
Mr Porritt read a communication from Mr Cowper offering to sell his collection of specimens to the Institute. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Boclt, seconded by Mr Baillie, that the offer cannot be entertained and that contributions of specimens towards forming a museum be solicited by the Committee. Resolved on the motion of Mr Brooks, seconded by Mr Stenhouse, that the yearly volume of Leisure Hour and two half-yearly volumes of Chambers' Journal be ordered.
Resolved on the motion of Mr Bock, seconded by Mr Brooks, that the secretary be instructed to report at next meeting the amount of subscriptions outstanding.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
