■ WELLINGTON. - Wednesday, . The Native Minister arrived last night, and has been in earnest conference with his colleagues to-day. There is nothing fresh regarding Native affairs. It is understood that a Royal Commission on public works, Civil Service organisation, and local industries . will shortly be made, the difficulty in selecting suitable Commissioners being the cause of the delay. .

Decisive action is being taken by the Government regarding the proceedings of the French Government in chartering a schooner to convey from New Caledonia to Auckland a batch of French convicts whose term of service had expired. It is understood that the Government are maturing a scheme of careful retrenchment in the various departments of the service, and the Estimates for the coming financial year, will show a considerable reduction.

In consequence of the re-arrangement of the San Francisso mail services the March mail steamer will leaye San Francisco on Saturday, the 13th prox., instead of Monday the 15th as announced in th e timetables, arriving at Auckland on the sth April instead of the 7th, the incoming mail leaving San Francisco on the 16th inst,, according to former arrangement,
