INQUEST.
An inquest was held at the Wairarapa Hospital, Greytown, yesterday, before H. H. Spratt and a jury, of twelve, of whom V. Harrison was foreman, upon the body of aman who was admitted into the institution on Friday last at half-past six p.m. and died on the following day at half-past two.
' E. Buckridge deposed that the man was ■brought to his house at about eiyht o'clock on Christmas night from Sutherland's station, Pahaua, by a boy named Frank Martin, who also -brought ; h, letter directed to Dr Smith. The boy said his orders were to leave the man and the lett t at my place, and I was to forward him on to the hospital, On Christmas day and ni'-'ht I was too busy, but offered the boy the brake to take the man on, but he would not do it. The boy left, but did not leave the letter. I took the man iu and did the best I could for him.
M.Riley corroborated the evidence of Buckridge as to the man being taken care
Dr J. Smith deposed that he had mnde a post mortem examination of the boiy and found that death resulted from syncope accelerated by exhaustion. Constable Willoughby deposed to seeing the man at Buckridge's Hotel on the 26th instant, and to.having him removed to the hospital. The jury, after about- fifteen minutes' consideration,returned a verdict of" death from exhaustion," and added rider, " that some blame must attach to the persons who sent the man from Sutherland's station, and for not properly attonding to him while there.
