MAURICEVILLE ROAD
To the Editor of the Waisabapa Daily,
Sir, —V/e are pleased to observe that the County Council West has taken steps to expend the balance of the Mauriceville vote on the improvement of the roads in this settlement. We must, however, express our regret that, instead of tenders being called for the work to be done on the north road, men have been brought from a distance and employed on daily pay, Had public tenders been called for, there are ninny local men who would li.ve competed; the work would have been done as well, and much more cheaply performed, and probably a good quantity of good labor now idle in the settlement would havo received temporary employment, In the present straitened state of the County finances the financial part of the question certainly demands due consideration, and we trust that any work in future decided on may be thrown open to public tender as suggested above. We have, &c., Peter Joiiensen, Jens Hansen, Mauriceville, Nov. 12th, '
