CARTERTON
(from our own correspondent, )
Nov 7,1870. The Hudson Surprise Company did not perform here last night as had been announced, much to the disappointment of the public generally, as we have had no entertainment of any kind here lately to enliven us,
I see that Mr Wakelin, although when he put up his Hour mill doubtless considered it equal to the requirements of the townbhip is now so pushed for room thi;t he is enlarging his building and bringing it out to the road boundary of his land? Mr Hooker is also erecting a shop and building on the vacant allotment between the Public Hall and the Marquis of Normanby Hotel,

Larrikinism is, I am sorry to say, still going oil in our midst at night time. A few evenings since the steps were removed from the door of one of aur stores, and though doubtless a mere frolic, might have been a repetition c.f old iEsop's fable of the boys and the frogs, as there is a fall of fully three feet from the flo >r of the store to the roadway, and anyone coming out sharply in the dark might and most probably would, have sustained injury to life or limb.
