PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

To Ik Editor of Ik Wairarapa Daily.

Sir,—l think most people admit how fairly you treat your correspondents, the latest instance of which is to be found in your issue of the sth inst.

That footnote to " One of the Disappointed's" bill of indictment was fair play itself, and if your correspondent had really been actuated by motives of genuine friendliness for the welfare of the Society, the sentiment of your remark must have occurred to him, and he would have held over his comments till after the show. To use all the weight and information he possesses to dash and thwart the efforts of a few can scarcely be regarded as the outcome of such friendship as he professes.

The question is not whether the. charges he makes against the show directors can be disproved. It is rather one of good taste, of good expediency. Whether a professing friend should at such a critical time take your correspondence columns and cover of anonymity to blazen forth the shortcomings of his fellow settlers. He has the means to do so, but having the means does not always justify. It was scarcely fair play, and certainly not a friendly action. I have a grievance—a special one—in addition to believing a great deal your "Disappointed One" writes of. But I think our best course is to attend at the next general meeting, and see if something can bo done to put matters on a different footing, more acceptable to all classes of exhibitors, more enticing to the public, and, by selecting the very best men as managers, reduce the chances of non-success to a minimum. •

Attempting to argue re the wisdom of purchasing the present site can do no good now. Another society, lacking the support this one receives, although it included many who are now discontented, would eooner or later become defunct.

We cannot support two Wairarapa shows, but, by all pulling together, we can raise one to a proud position among similar institutions. To attain this desirable your help, and the help of genuine friends is simply indispensable. I have, etc., Fairplay.
