GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Monday last. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Udy, Gray, Wakelin, J Smith and T, O. Barnard, lhe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE— OUTWARDS To Mr Payton, re Frethey's and Braggins' account, To Mr Darrick, re rent. INWABDS, Prom the Collector of Customs, re licenses. From H. Bunny, Esq,, with Gazette re emigrants' cottages reserve. The report of the Finance Committee was read, recommending the following accounts for payment; H." Morris £Bl7s'; F. Cole, £ls; W. Bishop, £2 ssGd; L. bt George, £4 2a 9d ; Town Clerk and Tieasurer, £lB 15s; Returning. Officer. £2 2s; Auditors, £0 Gs; Printing and advertising £5 los 9d, The report of the Works Committee was read, showing the following tenders had been received for footway : O. Tait £llO ; J. Udy, £llß 10s; R. Noakes! £l5O Gs.
For Papawai road; V. Morris, £2 3s 4d per chain; J, Udy, £2 9s 6d; C. Tait, £2 19s; T. Wiggins, £4 5 3 , <pi ie committee recommended that the tenders of C. Tait for footway, and W, Morris for road, be accepted, and also that a chain on each sido of White Pine Creek from est-Strcet Bridge be faciued. It was resolved on the motion of Or " alcelin, seconded by Cr Gray, that the reports of Works and Finance Committees bo adopted.
Mr W. Bock reported that he would value tho property in the Borough for this year for L2O. These terms were accepted, on the motion of Cr Udy, seconded by Cr Kempton. It was resolved that the overseer be offered one of the cottages rent free, and take charge of the others. Gl Wakeiin moved, Cr Fuller seconded that the Clerk be instructed to insure the cottages in the Colonial Insurance Co for L 75 each. ''
Cr Barnard moved as an amendment, that the-cottages be not insured. Mr J, Smith moved, as a further amendment, That the cottages bo insured for £SO each, Cr Udy seconded.
lhe last amendment being put, four voted for and four against. The Mayor gave his cas ing vo t e for the amendment. _ Or Smith moved that a committee, consisting of Crs Gray, Udy, Wakelin, and the mover be appointed to draw specifications for and ascertain the best kind of lamps for the Borough. Cr Kempton seconded the motion, which was carried. Cr Kempton gave notice that at next meeting lie would move that a map of the Borough be procured. His Worship the Mayor stated that he wished the Council to take over the control of Kempton-street. _ It was resolved that no action be taken ill the matter until the residents bring the necessary petition before the Council. This concluded the business.
