CARTERTON.
[from our own correspondent] September 13th, I am glad to see that the Taratahi-Carter-ton Highway Board are supplementing the good work done on the Main road by now removing the stumps on the B'lvidere road, as far as the proposed site of the railway station. Approximate as so many of these were to the road, it has been a work that has been urgently required for some time past, but with the increased traffic that may reasonably be expected to pass over the road in the course of a few months when railway communication is extended to the- township, it is one that was absolutely neceisary or I am sure that before long I should have had to record some severe casualties. The second performance of the Amateur Dramatic Club will probably take place in the Public Hall, within the next fortnight. The members would have made another appearance before this, but taking into consideration the entertainments that were brought before the public shortly afier their debut and the subsequent election excitement, the members decided, and wisely so, I deem, to postpone the production of their next pieces to a somewhat later date than was originally intended, I understand a concert is to be given in the Public Hall on Thursday eve r ing next by Mr and Mrs Florence and Mr Browning Considering the treat they gave us a few weeks since, I look forward to their having a good house. _ Apropos of the Public Hall, I may mention that a meeting of the shareholders is to take place on Wednesday evening next, and looking at the constant requisition the hall has been in for some months past, I trust the Directory will have a rather more satisfactory programme to submit than has hitherto been the case.
The sub-committee of the Wairarapa and Bast Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society met to-day, but owing to the lata hour until which the meeting sat, I must hold over a full report until Monday.
