CARTERTON.
[from our own correspondent] August 28, At the Volunteer drill last night Captain Snodgrass, Lieutenant Bennett, and between 30 and 40 rank and file were present At the close of the meeting the Captain announced that the. rifles for the corps had been received, and would be served out to all members who were entitled to a certificate of efficiency from the drill seargeant on the drill night next week. There seems, however, but little likelihood of the members of the corps being able to obtain their uniforms yet awhile, though it is to be hoped all the Corps in the Valley will be able to get them in time to muster a good Wairarapa contingent to represent the district at tho review, which, I understand, to be held in Wellington, on the anniversary of H.R.H,, the Prince of Wales. The only two topics here are the Elecand the Borough, and if you want to go outside of either of these questions, yon might as well spare your breath, for you will get but little satisfaction by way of reply.
