CARTERTON.

[prom our own comiesponeent] August 2nd. 1879. Owing, doubtless to the refusal of. the Governor to create the district into ?. Borough, action has at last been taken to place the Carterton Local Board on a legal basis, A public meeting is to be held forthwith, and I understand the election of Wardens will take place on the 30th insfc. At last Carterton folks will not have to travel from 5 to 9 miles every time they wish to make a simple declaration, as Messrs Burton Boys, William Booth, jun., and George Harry Lister-Kaye, have been gazetted Justices of the Peace. The appointments now made should have been done long ago, as the want of local magistrates have been felt as a great inconvenience in the district for many a year past. •
