Morris, for horse and cart at 12/ per day be accepted, The report of the Finance Committe was read recommending that £IOO he paid off the late Local Board overdraft, and recommending several accounts for payment. RESOLUTIONS. 1. It was rosolvcd on the motion of Or Barnard, seconded by Cr R. V. Smith, that the report of the Works Committee be adopted. 2. It was resolved that Cr Üby be asked to see Mr Brodio, and have the ruts in Frederick-street filled up.
3, It was resolved on tlw motion of Cr Kemption seconded by Cr Barnard that the works recommended by the Works Committee stand over until the Committee thought the work practicable, Cr Baillie wanted to know what the Council intended doing in connection with the Papawai road, he explained that the bridge had been washed away by the heavy flood, and the ratepayers in addition to paying the rate, had to put up a bridge and otherwise keep the road in repair at their own expense. ' He would have brought this before the "Works Committee before but he saw the position they were placed in, and did not bring it forward, but when he saw propositions brought forward to built bridges where they were not so badly wanted, ho thought it time to speak as the Borough had not yet spent a penny on that road. Cr Kempton wishod the Council to take into consideration the fact that they ought to spend in each district the amount of rates collected in that district and that by those means they would please every one. Cr R. V. Smith could not agree with Cr Kempton he did not believe in laying out every man's rates before his door, for the work would then be done in patches and no really good job finished well, and he recommended Cr Baillio to make a claim on the Council. Cr Baillie did not come with any claim on the Council, but he wißhed to bring under the notice of the Coucil the injui-
tice of asking them to pay rates and then let them build .their own bridges and keep their own roads, although the said roads were the property of the Borough. Cr Gray would like to see an abstract shewing the amount of rates collected in each quarter of the Borough, he thought if the ratepayers of Papawai had brought the matter before the Council that it would have been taken into consideration. It was resolved that the report of the Finance Committee as read be adopted. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Barnard, seconded by Or Baillie, that the Clerk be instructed to advertise the removal of the public pound, vVi,This concludedt he business. J^
