She tried to make her escape three times, but was recaptured, after which they determined to put her to death by burning at the stake. Mr Alexander, who was hunting in that part of the country; at. the time, happened to fall across a woman tied at a stake-a fire being built round itready to light—and guarded by a Redskin. Mr Alexander saw the position of tho white woman, levelled his rifle, dropped the Redskin, released the prisoner, and they (Mr and Mrs Alexander) mado their escape with their scalps, after many difficulties too numerous, to relate.
