MR WINGATE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.
To the Editor of the Wairaeapa ijaily
Sir—Mr Wingate has partially misapprehended—gone somewhat beyond my meaning in the interpretation lie lias put on my expression that lie and Mr Maunsell had been " led into a false position,"
I did not intend to impugn the conduct of those gentlemen, but the erroneous data upon which they acted. They have been consistent throughout, and, finding themselves in the wrong, they have taken the straightforward courso of setting themselves right with their constituents with the least possible delay in the most open maimer; and I have much pleasure in congratulating them and their fellow settlers in now being in accord on a matter of much importance, affecting a large area of country.—l am, &c,, Edwin Meredith,
