TINUI.

(From our own Correspondent.) Tinui, April 15,1879. Our district has again been all excitement owing to the Easter races, public meetings, and being holiday time. I feel satisfied in concluding that the Whareama never experienced* such an amount of gf pleasanty before ; in fact, it has been noise and bustle for the last week more especially.. This, of course, has been a great change to our usual quietude. You have no doubt been well posted up with respect to the different events respectin? the races, as I hear your representative was in attendance. There was only one thing which marred yesterday's proceedings, and that was Mr 3T. Morphy being kicked by a horse ; but 1 am glad to hear he is much better, and if able will be. removed to Masterton to-morrow. X hope it is nothing serious. A Hack Race concluded the meeting, which was won by Hathaway's Gazelle. I hear the meeting has given Mr Desmond a complimentary gift by way of old acquaintance. I believe all,'with few exceptions, enjoyed themselves, and speak highly of the district as a whole. Our amusements are not yet over, as we are to have a Batchelors' Ball ,on Friday; night.- 'So you see we shall have more, fun to ourselves. A publie meeting was held last Saturday to discuss the long agitated road question, and I believe the majority were in favor of adopting the cheapest road, but they have yet to learn that the cheapest is not always the best;. We have now a firßt-class boot • and shoemaker, a Mr Taylor, late of Mastertoni ; I have. seen, some of his. workman-' ship, and can srrongly recommend all to encourage local industry.
