The Services for Good Friday and Easter Day at St. Matthews' Church are notified in another column. On the former (lay they are at 11 a.m., and 3 and 7 p.m. On the latter at 7 a.m., II a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m. We are requested to state that the 7 a. in, Service has been substituted for one at 8 a.m., as the Rev. Mr Tealcle has a Native Service at the latter hour at Te Ore Ore. The insolvents' list published in the Melbourne papers forms very interesting reading. Wo find a bankrupt filing his schedule with liabilities £2B, assets £l, want of employment being returned as a cause for insolvency, Another one with liabilities £2,860, and assets £l, is returned as a commercial traveller attributing his losses to bad debts .and 'losses in establishing a business, Sickness in the family was the cause of another one through with liabilities of £287, and as°sets £l, while losses arising from a wreck explain why assets of £llos cannot meet liabilities of £GG7. On the other side we find insolvents showing assets £8,470 as
againsUiiibilitios of £C.72G, and £6?B to meet £530. In the case of fanners failure
of crops, and loss of stock by drought, are the common causes of while sickness in family, want of employment, losses in business, and pressure by creditors tell their own tales for business men and arfcizans.
In the House of Lords (says a Homo paper) is sometimes to be seen an elderly gentleman quietly seated at the table, or timidly walking in and out, counting his steps lest peradventure they might lead him to tread on the toes of a noble lord, He does not claim attention, and, to tell the truth, does not receive it. Nobody notices him, and no one would guess from any data of personal resemblance that he is brother to the puissant earl who lias had a good deal to do with the direction of the destinies of England during the last four years History, ancient or modern, scarcely supplies a parallel td the twin phenomena of the obscurity of Ralph Disraeli, and the contemporaneous fame of his brother Benjamin, The one has always lived in the blaze of notoriety; the other lias systematically shunned public recognition in any form. Ralph Disraeli's circle of acquaintances is limited in the extreme. He lives in the quietude of Onslow square, and may sometimes be met strolling about the private garden, or seated with book in hand under the old elm that faces the church which overlooks the most secluded corner of this bit of green in the heart of London. But he gives no parties and accepts no invitations. He has no ambition beyond the desire'to be left alone, and no wants beyond what are simply supplied by the emoluments of the office his brother thrust upon him. Nobody knows exactly the date of his birth, or even the epoch of his marriage. It is sufficient for him that he was born and is married, and he thinks that in these matters the world might well be satisfied with what contonta

A man named Hammond, employed on Mr Stuckey s station, at Eangitamau, met with a severe accident yesterday. A loaded gun was handed to him, and not observing that it was full cocked, he stood with his right hand on the muzzle watching some dogs which were quarrelling round him, when one of them van against the gun and sprung the trigger with its paw. Tlie shot severely shattered the hand which was over the muzzle, and the blaze injured one eye but not seriously. The sufferer was conveyed at once to the Masterton Hospital, where his wounds were dressed by Dr Hosking and Nurse Lyons. It is anticipated that more than one of the fingers on the wounded member will have to be amputated. A meeting of the House Committee of the Masterton Hospital was held yesterday afternoon. Present-Messrs McGregor (chairman), J. V. Smith, Bennett, and I ayton, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Secretary reported that the balance at the Bank was about £3o,< A letter, was read from Mrs Arnott, enclosing a chefjiw, the proceeds of the late concert in aid of the hospital. The Secretary was instructed to convey the thanks of the Committee to to the ladies and gentlemen who gave the concert. A letter was read from the secretary of the Greytown Hospital re a claim made for all expenses in connection with the case of Mrs .Robinson, showing that Mr Caselberg had authoiized the Greytown Hospital to charge the amount to the Masterton Hospital as a member of the Masterton House Committee. The meeting declined to admit the claim, on the ground that it was not a fair charge against the Masterton Hospital, and that Mr Caselberg was not a member of the House Committee. A number of accounts were submitted, hut consideration of them postponed till April 22nd, when a special meeting will be held. On the motion of Mr J. V. Smith, seconded by Mr Bennett, Mr F. G. Moore was appointed a member of the House Committee.
