P. J. Murtagh v. A. Moon—lllegal impounding, Mr Bunny for defendant. Defendant fined 50a and costs.
M. Tait v. P. J, Murtagh—Assault. Mr Bunny for defendant. This was a charge made by Mrs 6. Tait against the defendant for having assaulted her on two occasions, viz., the 28th October and Ist November. On the latter occasion it was alleged the defendant had knocked out one of complainant's toeth. Defendant swore that he did not assault complainant on any occasion, but that- on the Ist November she assaulted him, cutting his face, and that on putting up his hands to prevent a repetition of the blow one of them came in contact with Mrs Tait's face, this being the only assault committed.
The case occupied a considerable time, and several witnesses were examined at great length, The first charge, that of the 28th October, was dismissed. On the second Murtagh was fined L 5 and costs, or in default one month's imprisonment, The fine was paid,
