DR. HOSKING'S CASE.
To Ik Editor of the Wairarafa Daily. ■ Masterton, Feb. 20,1879. Sm,-In reply to your leader of yesterday I beg to enclose the original I gave in Mrs Bailey's case to her husband, instructing him to obtain the assent of the Committee to it, which he assures me he lias done, • The whole of the article in your yesterday's issue is so grossly untrue and unfair as to cany its own refutation, and I shall but consult my own dignity in the future by treating all such effusions with the contempt they merit,—l am, &c., IYhiDiam Hosmo, M.RC.S. [Certificate.] To Messrs. Vile, Girdlestone, Bennett, lorns, Williams, &c. Gentlemen,—The bearer's wife lias been suffering for some years from probably, cancerous ulcer of the legjiltof bone is] dead, and the leg should bo removed out any further delay, or the .woman will die of exhaustion. They have 110 means! nor proper place to have the operation performed, nor will she hear of going t( the Grey town Hospital, having waited : longtime in hopes of getting into the locs Hospital. Could you not make a pus! andge'tabed fitted up in the Women' Ward to-day 'for her reception, and 3 would operate to-morrow, or next day p found necessary.' I know this to bp an urgent case, and if possible would much' rather wait nntil a nurse was appointed; biit the delay might be dangerous. Yours obediently, : Dr Hosking. <| — l —* - To tk Editor of tk WarvbapaDaily. . ■ Sm,—l notice a,statement in your-col-, urnns of the 20th inst. j that Dr Hoskings admitted" :Mrs Bailey to the Masterton.. K rott y' a fiffiiir. The facts of the case arc ; ■ theso: The man Crotty was brought down jiom up-country to Masterton, and liaving ' |)QCn l'ofuscd admission at all other places : of accommodation, was finally housed and cared for at the Railway Hotel (it being well kuown at that time to be a home for tlio lmlt, maimed, lame, and destitute.) - Shortly aftor his arrival that night Dr Hosking attended and prescribed for his ; _ . comfort, but lie insisted upon going to the \ hospital, cursing and swearing all night through _ that Dr Hosking and myself K|tfere trying to rob him by keeping him in ■Bhe house, So, without seeing'Dr HosHB|ing next morning, I forwarded him at M&is own (Ovotty's) request, and at my exWrense, to tne Groytown Horpital, wliere, Mio doubt, you are too well acquainted HBvith the treatment he received on arrival H{iere for me to mention here. HST Dt' Hosking came up to tlie Railway ■Blotel soon after Crotty's departure for HRji'eytown, and was very angry about liis away in the state he was in, kuowHk' tlie treatment ho was likely to receive HHt tho hands of the Groytown people. I Hm>ink matters like these should be thoMHnighly sifted before blame is attached to HHiy gentleman in the position of Dr HosJflgghg.—l am, &c. HB E. BIiAGGIifS. ■B.S.—As regards Mrs Bailey, I had the Sraiful duty to convey her to tlie hospiHW and she seemed in a very exhausted Hfctate, although tho horses were going at a ffi|ery slow walk. The motion of the brake Hp too much for her, as she had fainting Mya'on the journey. Hny —: —s HBhT'o the Editor of th Waikarapa Daily. «B| Masterton, February 21. ffißiP.,-1 notico a statement in your Hwlumns of the 19th inst. referring to the jHase of Mrs Bailey, now a patient in the flMlasterton Hospital. You distinctly say BHjiat Dr Hoskitig's admitted the present Hhse by his own authority. I may say that ■Statement is njl bluff. I had a little busiHttess on the date mentioned, 21st of Jan., BHi Masterton on behalf of the Hospital, Bfirhen I was arrested by the Secretary askHJig me whether I had rccci/ed the bed HLul bedding for the patient that was about BHf be lodged in the Hospital. I responded Hgfiat I was not awaro of any one coming Hjito the Hospital; with that he hurried Hme lip to get the things. After this myHnlfjaud Mr James Brown went to the BBfnce', where we mot Mi' Bcetliam, and I His introduced as the Custodian of the BMpspital. Mrßeetliam asNjdMr Brown Bywliether the woman had of the H Committee to see her, and the icply .was Sjiio. .Then Mr Beetliam and Mr J. Vjlo H requested Mr Jas. Brown to send the Cusr Mtodian up to Mrs Bailey's house in their ■Boehalf to tell her to be ready the follow--9% day, as the Hospital was not quite Mtydy for her admittance. Therefore I Hnn safely say with confidence that Dr BHjtijjjy has no blame on his shoulders of Mmßßp iidmitter of Mrs Bailey into the HwHj'-' I have no doubt the Committee BmMß.ik it strange of me writing instead ■MRing the case beforo them on their kHßHeting at the Hospital, as I was HSBh at that meeting a part of the time. HHBHonc of these gentlemen had quesiKHfime I have no doubt I should have them with a good deal in this JgflUß&l am, ctc>, HSO Custodio.n Masterton Hospital Building.
