GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Monday, at 7 p.m. There were pre-sctifc-His Worship tho Mayor, Crs Baillic, Barnard, Kempton, jun., Fuller, Gray, Udy, and Smith. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed, CORHESPOiN'DENOE— OIIIwurds. To. Mr P. Cole, stating that he was appointed Working Overseer. • T. W. C. Cuff, Esq,, stating that the resolution re Treasurer had been rescinded. To Town Clerks of Palmerston, Wellington, and Blenheim acknowledging receipt of by-laws, To Insurance Companies, asking if they would supply an engine if the Council found water and had a brigade formed. To Mr W. Bock, re appointment as collector for the Borough. Inwards. Several letters were read from Insurance Offices re supplying an engine, the majority of which were unfavorable. From Mr W. R, Hastwell, resigning his seat in the Council. From Mr W. Bock, naming his sureties a3 Collector for the Borough.' Circular from the Colonial Secretary's Office, calling the attention of local bodies to the fact that frequent applications having been made for extension of time to be granted by the Governor in Council under Section G8 of the Rating Act, it was necsssary to notice that the Governor had only power to grant an Order in Council when thero was a misadventure or accident, and that it was necessary for local bodies making application for extension of time under that Act to state the nature of the misadventure or accident, and the causes which have led to it mu3t be clearly shewn, HESOI.OTIOKS. , It was resolved that the resignation of Mr Hastwell be accepted. It was resolved, on tho motion of Cr Kempton, seconded by Cr Udy, That Mr Thomas Frothy be appointed Rotuming Officer for the election. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Baillic, seconded by Cr Smith-That a Finance' Committee be appointed. It was resolved on the motion of Cr Udy-That all books, accounts, Ac., of the late Local Board be handed over to the Council for examination and auditing. Seconded by Cr Baillie. Tho Clerk was instructed to apply to the Government for licenses of auctioneers, publicans, &c. Cr Kempton gave notice that he would move at next meeting that Mr W, G. Beard bo appointed Solicitor to the Borough, The Council then adjourned.
