COBB & CO'S. TRIP TO TINUI.

* (From an Ooccasional Coreesfondent.) On Tuesday morning, the 28th instant, wo started from the Tauoru'-Hotel in ono of Cobb & CoVfour-horso coaches, piloted by that well-known driver fat Cockery. Wo had eight passengers all told. After passing the well known stations of Messrs Maco and Vallance, wo descended into thu Mungapakeha Valley, which showed an abundance of feed that one would hardly oxpect after the long spell of dry weather we have had. I was surprised to find such a beautiful road. This road leads through Mr Bennet's run. I believe it is .the proprietor's intention to cut up this valley into small farms as soon as it is 'fenced and surveyed into convenient blocks,.-. The land is very rich, and my advice to any one in search of a farm is to .goandseethe land at once.- The road that is made breaks off about ten miles up the valley. We proceeded across the valley and up some steep pinches and through, a few gates, and then descended to ■ Mr Bennet's beautiful homestead. The buildings are all well looked after, and kept very neat; the hoiiso has been newly painted, and the grounds neatly laid out. After getting permission we: left the station and descended into the Whareama river, which was almost dry. This river was never known to be so low before. To get out- of the river the road led up a very steep bit of cutting, almost perpendicular, but Pat was equal to tho occasion, and steered his team up without a mishap. We then proceeded through the valley once more. After passing tho homesteads of Messrs Wishaw and Peach we arrived at Tinui, and pulled up at Host Miller's'hostelry, where we "received a hearty welcome and a good dinner, which after washing down with a drop of " Long John." took a stroll through the town. We interviewed our old friend Fabian, the Postmaster, who has a very snug place and a much more roomy oflice than onr Masterton one*, The Tinui Hotel is very nicely furnished, and Very clean, and seems to mo to be doing a very fair business. We retired for the night and made' an early start to return to Masterton. At lialf-past eight a.m. our driver gave tho well known cry of "All aboard." On taking our seats we found a crowd waiting to see the coach go, as we were to cross the celebrated Black Hill, over which no four-horso coach had ever gone before'; After going about six hundred yards wo came to the foot of the hill, and by giving the horses three spells we reached tho top in safety, and then commonced to doscend ; but first the driver put a chain on each wheel and skidded the coach down into the valley below. Mr Miller very kindly accompanied us during the ascent and descent of ths Black Hill, and pointed out the road until wo reached the new road. After bidding us all good-bye, and wishing U3 a safe passage, ho returned to Tinui, while we proceeded on to Masterton, where the coach arrived at the Prince of Wales Hotel on .Wednesday evening, after a very pleasant passage. A great deal of praise is due to Pat Cockery for the plucky manner in which ho piloted his team.
