The Education Board has seen-iit to repudiate some of the expenditure, although sanctioned by, it, on the ground that the predecessors of your present Commiittee had promised to raise the sum of £75 locally towards these expenses. The accompanying. balance-sheet will show much more than the said' sum has been raised here by the Committee. The Committee has considered the advisability of adopting the compulsory clauses of ' .the Education Act, but decided-that the. i .timefor its adoption had'not yet arrived. ) Great inconvenience has been experienced [ through insufficient teaching power for the school,'and the Committee repeatedly urged > the Board to supply a : second-master. This j has been 'dono at last, and tho Committee hope that'there wall be no further trouble on this head. The Committee has considered--1 it advisable to leave the question of iestsb- ' Ming a savings bank as provided. for by the Education Act to the incoming l Com- ' mifctce, and the Committee also recommend • to its successors the proprietry of obtaining r the serviees 'of .a. qualified mistress for t sewing. ) , Tho, Committee desires to testify its plea- ). sure, at the efficient training of - the'scholars , under the head-master, Mr' Pilkingtou, espccially considering the adverse circum- , stances under which lie labored.
