FROZEN PORK.
N.Z. PRODUCT IMPROVING. The figures in the last returns show that the import of frozen pork from New Zealand is rapidly assuming a position of importance. When I was last at Smithfield market, some two months ago, says a commentator in the Farmer and Stock Breeder, I saw a great many of these frozen carcases which were mostly Berkshires and Berkshire crosses. They did not strike me as being well-finished porkers, but I am told they are improving with every consignment, and, knowing the man who is responsible for the organisation of the pig industry in New Zealand, I should say they will continue to do so. It should not be forgotten by home producers that, not only does the New Zealand Government carry all the cost of the organisation of this business, but it also pays a direct subsidy to the farmer for every carcase exported.
