BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.

ANNUAL MEETING. The fort v-seeond annual meeting of the Ladies’ Benevolent Society took place on August 7th. Mrs G. A. Manchester presided over a fair attendance. The minutes of the previous annual meeting were read and confirmed, and the balance sheet was read and adopted. The report shows that the mem bership now stands at 34 members. Three new members, Mrs A. V. Richards and .Messrs 11. C. Foster and G. B. Turnbull, had joined the Society during the year, and one member, Mrs Sutherland, had resigned. Mo.re members were urgently needed, so that the good work of rhe Society may continue. More than .£lOO were spent during the year in food and firing, and ns those in receipt of benevolence are chiefly mothers (whose husbands are unemployed or ill) and old people, the Society would lie grateful for donations or new members. During the year, Air S. J. Adams sent .£5 as a donation, for which lie was sincerely thanked. The following were elected to office —-President: Airs G. A. Alanehester (re-elected); vice presidents: Ales dames d’Auvergne and Studholme; lion, secretary* and treasurer, Airs Coventry (re-elected). A’otes of thanks were accorded His Worship the Mayor for the use of Borough Council, Air Parry for kindly auditing the balance-sheet, the local newspaper proprietor, to all subscribers, to the monthly visitors, and to the office-bearers. A committee meeting was held at the conclusion of the annual meeting Eight requests for assistance wwe received. Mesdames Scott and Studholme were appointed visitors for the month. Accounts amounting to ,C 22 were passed for payment.
