The Italian entrant in the Schneider Cup met with disaster at Lake Garda when the 18 horse power machine, Manchi, reputed to be Italy’s fastest, crashed and was totally wrecked. Captain Alotte, the pilot, w'as killed. Further tests are being feverishly carried out. It is expected that Italy will be able to enter three machines for the Cup. POSTPONEMENT OF RACE REQUESTED. MANCHI DOES 354 MILES PER HOUR. Australian Press Association. Received this day, 11.40 a.m. ROME, Aug. 23. Captain Motta was travelling at 354 miles per hour when he crashed. This is believed to be an unofficial world’s record. The machine dived from a height of 300 feet and struck the Lake with terrific force. Motor boats rushed to the scene but there was no trace of the body. Italy has made an official request that the Cup race be postponed. The Italians want ten days or a fort night to enable the completion of the other machines in the factory. It is recalled that the Americans granted her a postponement in 1926 and it is believed that Britain will grant the postponement.
