RUGBY FOOTBALL.

WAI MATE SUB-UNION. A • well-attended mflpting of the Waimate Rugby Football Sub-Union was held last evening, Mr W. F. Boland being in the chair. It was decided to open the season with first-grade matches, the remaining grades to commence within the next fortnight. On Thursday, Southern play Huimai on No. 2 ground (Mr H. C. Foster, referee), and Ma.rist play Northern on No. 1 ground (Mr L. Penman, referee). A stall containing produce and articles of value to the home will be in operation in the Bank of New Zealand right of way on Saturday, May 19th. All those who are willing to make contributions to this stall are asked to send in their offerings to the president, Mr W. F. Boland. An old “Southernite" ,<. Icets the following prospective senior team —■ L. Gray, H. Loper, W. Miller, H. Smith, T. Smith, I. Smith, K. Giles, N. C. Manchester, J. Dench, D. Samways, W. Deady, I. Barclay, F. Wilce, G. Stewart, Campbell. If all available for coming season Southern should go a long way, concludes “Southernits.”

Huimai Seniors to play Southern on Thursday will be picked from the following:—Baxter, Gibson, Gil lam. Hollamby .(2), Eathorne, Pearse, Wellwood, Allnutt, Lundy, *T. Wesley, Forsythe (2), Henshaw, Benson, Hayman (2), Taiaroa, Blair, Simpson,. Rollinson, Davis, Wild, Garland.

Southern Seniors to play Huimai on Thursday next will be selected from the following:—I. Campbell, I.

Barclay, J. Wilce, G. Stewart, W.. iDeady, J. McNeill, J. Dench, 11. Loper, ®. Mcßae, H. Smith, I. Smith L. Smith, W. Millar, L. Grey, N. Manchester, D. Samways. All players are requested to be on ground by 2.30 sharp. A team will be selected from the following to represent Marist Seniors against Northern Seniors at Manchester Park on Thursday:— Weiheipihana, Tavendale, Foley, O’Neill, Twomey, Fleming (2), Bartlett, Kennedy, Debridge, Anderson, Thyne, Hansen, Crowle, Healey, Grey, Mathieson, Frewen, Cooney.
