ABOLITION OF SLAVERY
ALL SLAVES IN BURMAH RELEASED. GENEROUS COMPENSATION. (Per Press Association —Copyright) Australian Press Association. United Service. Received this day, 8.50 a.m. CALCUTTA, May 6. The slave-releasing expedition into the Burmese jungle recently has returned after the release of the final batch of 1028 slaves. No slaves remain. At a largely attended Durbar the Commissioner announced the definite abolition of slavery in the Kachin Hills. Generous compensation had been paid and henceforth there is no further right to possess slaves or receive compensation.
