PROHIBITION IN U.S.A.
ENFORCEMENT OF THE LAW THE TOLL OF LIVES. WASHINGTON, Aug. 30. The Treasury statistics show that the enfo.rcem.ent of prohibition has now cost nearly three hundred lives. Fifty-four agents were killed on duty by violaters of the law. Six eoastguardsmen were slain and one hundred other members of the socalled “dry” navy lost their lives by like, drowning or explosions flboa ml the small pursuit craft, while 125. liquor-runners, all on the gioirruls of self-defence. The Treasury keeps no record of those wounded, but these are estimated: at several thousand among the Government agenbs alone, while it is impossible to reckon the number of violaters injured.
