MEETING OF COMMITTEE. Mr J. C. Faulkner presided at the last meeting of the Committee of the Waimate A, and P. Association. There were also present Messrs J. T. Hay, J. Baikie, J. I. Hayman, J. C. Hay, R. Sinclair, E. Stokes, A. W. Barnett, J. O’Hara, J. Milne, E. C. Studhohne, C. S. McLachlan, W. Bell, W, Hayman and Capt. N. A. Rattray. Correspondence. Hon. 0. J. Hawken, Minister of Agriculture, replied, in answer to the Association’s protest against the importation of Australian flour, that only 110 tons had been imported, only a few hours’ supply.—Received. The Railway Department wrote stating that the question of demurrage charges was being inquired into. —Received. New Members. Messrs R. Childs and D. Brunton, both of Otaio, were elected members of the Association. Ram Fair. The secretary reported that the Ran, Fair drew a good yarding. There were a few less entries than last year. Receipts had amounted to £lO 7s, and expenditure £5 7s, leaving a credit balance of £5. The report was considered satisfactory, and adopted. Mr Barnett pointed out some annoyances at the Fair, and moved the following: “That this Committee recommends the new Committee to adopt the following for the Ram Fair, 1928: ‘That the pens be niifmbered a day before the sale? ‘Thar the catalogues be in the hands of the auctioneer the day before the sale.’ ‘That only the sheep of the registered flocks of the owners whose names appear in the flock book be allowed in the list of registered sheep for sale.’ ‘That the upset price be 1A guineas for Ram Hoggets, 3 to 9 guineas for rams, to 1(1 guineas stud rams.’ ‘That the pens be available for sheep the afternoon previous to the sale.’ ‘Sheep not eligible for previous lots be entered and sold under unregistered sheep.’ ” The recommendation was passed. The following names were proposed to send to the Royal Society for inclusion in the judges’ list: Clydesdales, Messrs Mitehell (Studholme), J. C. Faulkner (Willowbridge) and W. xfimith (Willowbridge); light horses, Mr H. C. J. Harper (Waihao Downs); pigs, Mr D. Lundy (Morven); dogs, Mr M. Meßae (Waihao Downs) and Mr M. L. Elliott (Glenavy); Friesian cattle, Mr J. Briggs (Waihao Downs); Jerseys, Mr D. Kennedy, (Morven).
A circular from the Agricultural Department with regard to the deterioration of wool, asked a number of questions in the matter; and liter some discussion, Messrs Studholme and Barnett drew up a rcpiy.
The general meeting of the Association was fixed for May 14. The secretary reported that two sides of a yard at the Showgrounds had been completely knocked out.
The matter was left with Mr J. I Hayman to deal with.
Aecotffcts amounting to £l2 10s 6d were passed for payment.
