SYDNEY, April 6
It transpires that when th* Duke York was in Sydney attending the Returned Soldiers’ luncheon in the Wentworth Hotel opposite which Dr. Lang’s old Scots’ Church is beingL dismantled, some workmen had undermined the tower in preparation for dropping it, and were waiting till the crowd should get away. A few minutes after the Duke left and the crowd had dispersed the tower suddenly and unexpectedly settled down and •» quantity of debris crashed through the tenhe where numbers of people h:ui been standing. Some of the debri« lodged close to where the Duke’s *»»• had been parked. Responding to the civic address, the Duke said he wanted to see as much as possible of problems confronting employers and employees. He and the Duchess desired to render service to Australia, and they felt the best way to do that was to see things for themselves, and relate their experiences to others at Home, on their return.
