ASTOUNDING EXPLOIT IN NEW YORK. NEW. YORK, Nov. 1. A 1W fashion in highway robbery it» New Ywk was successfully set in Brooklyn-" Borough by three bandits, who kidnapped for an hour Mrs W M. Calder, Wife of the ex-senator, her daughter, Mrs R. C. Lee, wife of Commander L«» r of the American Naval Militia, anti Mrs William’- Harlow, a family friend!. The bandite drove the three women round Brooklyn in their own motorcar under cownr of revolvers, and finally escaped with all their jewels, including wedding: rings, valued, at £3OOO.

The party wene returning from a threatre with Dr. J£. H. Barltey. Dr Bartley alighted at. his hotel and the chauffeur then proceeded to Mrs Lee’s home. As Mrs Lee stepped from the mofto-r-car three bandits forced her back into the ear, which they entered after her.

Ono bandit took- the wheel, and, overawing the chauffeur with a revolver, preceded to drives through Brooklyn’s maze of streets while the other bandits searched the women in the dark of the limousine; for their jewels. The women were on the verge of hysterics, but were prevented from crying out to the many passing.-motor-cars by the menace of the revolvers.

Finally the bandits halted the motorcan within a few yards of the residence of. Police Commissioner McLaughlin.

The bandits made the women and chauffeur alight and then sped away themselves in the motor-car. Mrs Calder telephoned her husband, who notified the police. AU available detectives were immediately assigned to. the ease.

The motor-car was found abandoned an hour later, but there was no trace of the bandits. This is the first time a case has been reported to the police of a night “hold-up” in a. motor-car under such astonishing conditions.
