CONQUEST OF THE AIR

(Per Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, December 18. The first of the Dehaviland Bristol Jupiter Empire air liners for the fortnightly Cairo-Karachi service left London this morning, with several passengers, including Sir Sefton Brancker (director of civil aviation), and twoi pilots, Captain Dod and Captain Warner.

LONDON, December 19. Sir Sefton Brecker’s second airship on the Cairo route, will leave Crcyden on Monday.

The first one reported at Lyons. It will await the arrival of the second piloted by Captain Hinehcliffe. The ;wo ihachines will complete the Mediterranean, crossing together to the North African Coast, thence to Cairo. There the first “Hercules” will remain and play a part in the regular mail pas senger service which starts operating on January 12.

Later cm the third machine, with Sir Samuel and Lady Hoare, will fly from London to India. The fortnightly service will be thereafter maintained.

Sir Sefton Brancker’s plane has a wing span of 80 feet, a length of 66 feet, and a height of 18 feet. The plane is fitted with wireless and heating apparatus.

PARIS, December 18. The international Areonautic Federation, including Germany, held its first meeting here. A gold medal was presented to Sir Alan Cobham for his Australian flight, and Lieutenant Cierva (Italy) and Captain Doisy (France) were also honoured. Two tests were devised for worid’s records for light aeroplanes, of 200 and 400 kilogrames, the greatest straight line distance without landing, the greatest circular distance and greatest speed for 100 kilometres, and the greatest height.
