EVENING SPORTS.
A GREAT SUCCESS. AMATEUR ATHLETICS GIVEN A FILLIP. The first evening amateur sports meeting in Waimate was held in Victoria Park last night and proved an unqualified success. The attendance of the public was not all that it should have been, but those who did come along witnessed some very good races and exciting finishes: The takings at the gate, however, should prove sufficient to pay expenses. The competitors from Timaru num bered about eighteen, and they are to be heartily thanked for the help they have given to amateur sport in Waimate. If these meetings are continued the promoters can count on a strong contingent of competitors from Timaru.
The Silver Band is worthy of a word of special praise for gratuitously entertaining the public at the Park with some fine selections. At the conclusion of the programme Mr L. J. Collins personally thanked the members of the Band. The following were the results:—
