WAITUNA. [OTO OWN’ OOKBBSPONDBNT] The second of the series of Euchre Parties and Dances, was held ini the School on Friday. 11th. June. A most enjoyable evening was spent by all those present. The euchre tournament, which is approaching the final evening, 2nd. July, was very keenly contested. Mesdames Campbell and Herron, and Mr Smith, were the winners for the evening. As many players are close together with their scores there is bound to be keen rivalry when the final is played. After supper the hall was cleared and dancing was carried on till the early hours of the morning. Miss Fitzmaurice very kindly gave an exhibition of step dancing, which was much enjoyed. As a result of the social the School funds benefitted, and many of those interested in the School have expressed themselves as very pleased with the social activity of the district.

MAKIKIHI. [ora OWN OOR*B»rONI>BNTJ Th half-yearly meeting of the Makikihi Lodge M.U. was held in the Lodge Room, Makikihi, on Monday night, Bro. W. Dempsey, N.G., presiding over a large attendance. The District Officers wqre all pres ent, and visitors from Loyal Morven and Timaru Lodges, and also P.P.G.M. Bro. G. Campbll, from Southland Lodge. A good deal of correspondence was satisfactorily dealt with. The sick report showed a clean sheet. Accounts amounting to £l7 10s 4d including one maternity bonus, were passed for payment. A good deal of. discussion took place regarding the new rules, after which the Lodge decided to go fully into the matter next week, and early in July meet delegates from the various Lodges to discuss them finally. The G.M. then gave a full account of the visits to the various Lodges, the D.G.M. and P.C.S. also replying to the second sentiment. After the visiting Lodges had spoken, supper was handed round, and all seemed to have had a very enjoyable evening.
