MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WAI MATE—THIS DAY. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley S.M.) Mr. E. D. Moseley, S.M. presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Defence Cases. For failing to attend drill, Alexander Moore was convicted and fined £1 and costs. Arrears in Income Tax. The Commissioner of Taxes (Mr W. D. Campbell) under the Lana and Income Tax Act, 1923, chargea Timothy Twomey (Mr S. I. Fitch) with failing to furnish a return in the prescribed form setting forth a complete statement of all the assessable income derived by him during the year ending March 31, 1925. The Magistrate stated that there was ho actual dishonesty, but others who paid the tax were supporting such people. A fine of £2O and costa was imposed. By-Law Breaches. Samuel H. Hitchens, for cycling without. a lignt after dark, was lined 10s and costs. For leaving a car without lights, Norman Gray and M. Lawry were each fined 5s and costs. Wandering Stock. For allowing cattle and one horse to wander, M. E. Hanley, farmer, Morven, was fined 10s and costs. On a charge of allowing cattle to wander G. Kirk was ordered to pay costs amounting to 13/8. On a similar charge R. B. Hurst was fined 10s and costs. F. Sauer, for allowing two horses to wander was fined 5s and costs. Civil Business. Judgement for plaintiff by default was given in the following civil cases:—Tom Mitchell v. D. Sullivan, claim £1 8s 6d, for costs only; Price Bios. v. A. J. Cullimore, £1 12s 6d; William Dowrie v. Kenneth Finlayson £22; John O’Brien v. Alexander Hunt, £6 13s 3d.
