WAIMATE TENNIS CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The second annual general meeting of the Waimate Tennis Club was held in the school room last night, there being about 30 members present. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs McKenzie, Barclay, and Rev. J. D. Wilson. The annual report and balancesheet (as previously reported in the Daily Advertiser) were read. The president (Mr Tweedy), in congratulating the members on having had such an exceptionally good season, said he thought the forming of another club would be an excellent idea from their point of view. However, it was a matter for the committee to discuss. New members would have to realise that the courts were very much overcrowded by reason of the increased interest taken in the game. He was very pleased with the attitude of members generally towards the administration and he thanked the committee for its loyal support. After a lengthy discussion regarding a 3-up challenge scheme, it was decided that the same rule as operated previously in the men’s section again be adopted, with protection to the first four. players. With respect to the ladies’ section, a motion that the ladder system remain as previously with the exception of the first 12 players only, was carried. The subscription for the ensuing year was fixed the same as last year. Honorary members’ subscriptions were fixed at ss. Air Taylor contended that the slate system should be brought into operation,- as in other centres, where the system had worked well and proved to be a success. A discussion followed over the possibility of one member having all the play. The chairman said he did not see how the system could work, owing to the shortage of courts. Miss Marsh approved of Mr Taylor’s suggestion. It was eventually resolved that the general committee elect a sub-com-mittee to deal with the matter. Mr Williams brought up the matter of school children using the courts. The president explained that the School Committee proposed putting down a new court, but so far nothing hqd been done. In the meantime the school children would have the use of the club's courts under the same conditions as last year. Dissatisfaction was expressed at the payment of (id for challenges, and 3d was mentioned as a reasonable charge. There was diversity of opinion, however, and it was finally decided that the charge of fid remain. The election of officers resulted: — Patrons, Messrs J. Bitchener, M.P., and F. Nash; president, Mr W. Cr. Tweedy; vice-presidents, Dr. Vi ylie, Rev. Canon Cocks, and Mr Parry; secretary, Mr Stevens.; treasurer, Mr Williams; auditor, Mr Hutchinson; committee, Misses Jones, Marsh, Wellwood, and Messrs Beckett, laylor and McKenzie.
